A Russian discovered crabapple; the word ‘Dolgo’ means long in Russian which describes both its extended bloom time and the conical shape of the crabapples. Propagated in South Dakota as early as the late 19th century, this tree is prized for its cold hardiness and disease resistance.
One of the very best all-purpose crab apples! Dolgo bears large 1-inch, tart, crimson red fruits you can eat raw or make into a ruby-red apple jelly. Dolgo describes the shape of the fruit, which is so brightly colored and abundant it looks like a Christmas tree from afar! Dolgo crab apples are scab and mildew resistant, featuring a cascade of white flowers in the orchard every spring. Fresh eaten, Dolgo tastes like a candied cranberry and adds a bitter-sharp flavor to ciders.
Ripens: August- September
Moderate growth rate of 1 to 2 ft per year. Dolgo will pollinate almost all eating apples too.
BONUS/FREE Root Dip is an Endo-Mycorrhizal & Ecto-Mycorrhizal Inoculant for bare root treatments to inoculate the roots of plants before planting. This results in faster plant establishment.
